The Evans family were early immigrants to Colorado and settled in the Highland Lake district which was also the Colorado location of the Benjamin Francis Markham family.

ELI EVANS (ELIHU) was born March 16, 1764 in Uwchland Twp, Chester County, PA and died 1844 in Wayne Twp, Lawrence Co, PA. He married ELIZABETH MCELHENEY, daughter of George McElhaney and Sophia North. She was born November 21, 1774 in Chester Co, PA and died 1857.

Notes for ELI EVANS:
Of Welsh and English ancestry and grandfather of Captain Thomas George Evans. Came to Beaver County, New York from Chester County, NY in 1799. He became the owner of four hundred acres of land on what is now called Patterson Heights.

Of English ancestry and grand niece of Lord North who was Prime Minister of England under George III in the late 18th century and more than a little responsible for the tax problems with the American colonies

NORTH EVANS (ELI) was born May 28, 1798 in Newcastle/Lawrence/PA. He married MARY ANN (ELIZA) BLACK, daughter of EDWARD BLACK DOUGHTERY, ESQ.. She was born in Newcastle/Lawrence/PA.

Notes for NORTH EVANS:
Named so because of the family name, "North". They had a large family, all of whom moved to Colorado.

JONATHAN EVANS (ELI) was born August 02, 1800. He married CHRISTIANA RALSTON.

A miller and owned a flour mill on the Connoquenessing near the present location of Ellwood.

GEORGE THOMAS EVANS (ELI) was born July 01, 1802. He married LETITIA DARRAGH SCOTT, daughter of DARRAGH.

Employed on the river when quite young and became a pilot and captain. he removed to Rochester in 1849.

Notes for THOMAS GEORGE EVANS:
Educated in the public schools and chose the profession of his father, going on the river at about 20 years of age. The "Coal City", L.N. Bunton", "Eagle" and the "John Walton" are among the boats on which he served as pilot. He was employed by Joseph Alton and CO. for twenty-six years.

Generation No. 5

HIRAM EVANS (NORTH) was born March 02, 1829 in Beaver County/Penn, and died December 18, 1907 in New Windsor/Weld/CO. He married OLIVE ST. CLAIR ANGUS October 22, 1874 in Central City/Gilpin/CO, daughter of DAVID ANGUS and CAROLINE RIPPLE. She was born February 22, 1853 in Newcastle/Lawrence/PA, and died October 06, 1941 in Windsor/Weld/CO.

They both came west with the Eli Evans family in a covered wagon in 1874. When they arrived in Chicago, due to illness in the family they continued on by train to Denver, Colorado and located, first, in Golden. After their marriage, they located in Arvada before homesteading the land where the town of Mead now stands.

In 1882 they moved into the Johnstown district, settling on the Little Thompson River. In 1899 the family moved permanently to the Windsor district. More About HIRAM EVANS:

EFFIE MAUD EVANS (HIRAM) was born April 19, 1882 in Highland Lake/Weld/CO, and died May 15, 1969 in Longmont/Boulder/CO. She married CHARLES ROBERT MARKHAM April 26, 1901 in Boulder/Boulder/CO, son of BENJAMIN MARKHAM and HARRIET SHIPP. He was born December 08, 1880 in Dresden/Decatur/Kansas, and died March 31, 1936 in Mead/Weld/CO.

Notes for EFFIE MAUD EVANS:
Born in Highland Lake, Weld County, Colorado and moved to Johnstown at an early age and grew up there.

Married to Charles W. Markham in 1901. Member of the First Christian Church and Entre Nous Club.

Charles died in 1936 and Effie moved to Longmont in 1950 where she resided until she died.
Burial: May 17, 1969, Longmont/Boulder/CO Mountain View Cemetery

Notes for CHARLES ROBERT MARKHAM:
Farmed near Bennett, Colorado (East of Denver) from 1909 until 1917 and lived in the school house where Effie taught school. Returned to Mead, Colorado where Charles worked for the Highland Ditch Co. for a number of years.
